Research upon Research
Although it has been a slow few weeks, I am loving every bit of owning this business. When I am not working on a project I am creating ideas for social media or researching events in which I can promote my business. Aside from social media, I needed to market my business in other ways and so I started researching bridal expos in the Miami and Orlando areas.
When Jeremy and I were engaged we went to one bridal expo and although we didn't book through any vendor we encountered at the expo, I looked over every piece of information we received and researched the vendors. I had received a swag bag and there were several items including hand-sanitizers, cookies, pens, paper pads in which all items had the business cards attached. It was honestly fun as a bride to get this "free stuff" and so I started researching expos in the Miami and Orlando areas.
After I found a few expos, Jeremy and I discussed what I could send for the swag bags. I didn't want anything too bulky as it would need to be shipped and I wanted something other than my business card in the bags. I then thought about some type of incentive for brides who book my services through the expos. My research continued on Vista Print as I browsed the items available. I came across a postcard template with a coupon and I started personalizing.
"We look forward to working with you"
Now that I had my postcards I started writing down expos and emailing the contact person to obtain additional information. I had ordered 500 postcards with a coupon expiration of 12/31/19 and so my goal was to get all my postcards out by August. Each expo requests at least 100 items be sent for their swag bags, I needed to find at least 5 expos.
I have already mailed 100 postcards to a recent expo that occurred February 10th (still waiting to hear from potential brides) but I have also booked another expo and will mail 100 postcards in April. I have the additional three expos finalized but of course sending the swag bag items cost money and I am trying to budget the best I can.
My mindset this first year of business is "spend money to make money" and I pray that my marketing tools help increase business and I will eventually make profit for what I have spent so far. My organizational side has started excel worksheets to keep track of expenses and profits. So far with the few projects I have done and my upcoming wedding, I may (hopefully) break even for this year.
2019 Goals
With the promo postcards being sent to the expos it is essentially the waiting game to hear from brides-to-be. Some expos provide the lead list of contact information and I intend to personally reach out to the brides. This past expo on February 10th I was provided with the lead list and I am working on a follow up email to send to each bride.
Praying that I will be able to meet with a few brides in the near future for a consult!
Friends and Family
I've only booked one wedding but I want to offer a 10% discount to friends and family directly who book my event services - month of coordination, partial planning or full service planning. Once I email my quote I want to take 10% off from that so if you need an event planner, let me know!
